What to do if you are going to miss a repayment

Telling your lender early changes the options available to you. Saying nothing removes almost all of them.

What to do if you are going to miss a repayment

Get in touch before the date, not after

This is the whole article in one line. A payment you have flagged in advance is a conversation. A payment that simply fails is an arrears case, and arrears cases have fewer routes out.

What can usually be arranged

Depending on your circumstances and how far into the term you are, options can include moving the payment date, a short reduced-payment period, or extending the term to lower the monthly amount. None of these are guaranteed, and all of them are easier to agree before a payment is missed.

What it costs to say nothing

A missed payment can attract a charge, and repeated missed payments affect your ability to borrow in future. Neither is applied to punish you for having a difficult month; both follow automatically from a payment that does not arrive without explanation.

How to raise it

Open a support ticket from your dashboard, or contact us directly. Say what has changed, what you can pay this month, and when you expect to be back on track. You do not need documents to start the conversation.

If money is tight more broadly

Free debt advice is available independently of any lender, and speaking to an adviser does not affect your account with us. If several commitments are under pressure at once, that is usually the right first call.
